Description

Operators have welded the last piece of the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline in place as the gas pipeline is set to deliver gas to Germany in October.

Footage seemingly filmed at the Baltic Sea on Monday and Sunday and as handed out by the Nord Stream 2 AG shows the final piece of the pipeline being welded by Fortuna pipe-laying operators.

A source of debate and angst between Germany and the United States, the pipeline is set to bypass Ukraine to deliver natural gas from Russia to Germany.

The Nord Stream 2 project was debated fiercely since its conception. In a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on August 22 in Kiev, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Selenskyj called the pipeline a "dangerous geopolitical weapon of the Kremlin."
