The Israeli army released drone footage on Thursday which it claimed showed the final moments of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, sitting on a chair in a bombed-up house shortly before his death in southern Gaza the previous day.
Footage also shows the man appearing to throw a stick at the drone.
Israel said that he was not identified at the time, and had been killed in a subsequent strike on the building. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Sinwar had been 'eliminated' but said that 'the war in Gaza is not over yet'.
Hamas had not confirmed Sinwar's death at time of publication.
Sinwar - who Israel claims was the mastermind behind the October 7 attacks - replaced Ismail Haniyeh after the former leader of the Hamas Political Bureau was assassinated in Tehran in July.
