Description

Clashes between Kurdish Asayish forces and the pro-Syrian government National Defence Forces (NDF) continued in the city of Qamishli, on Thursday, with sounds of shots heard and plumes of smoke seen billowing in the area.

Asayish forces set up barriers and brought military vehicles to the city checkpoints to repel what they reported to be the government forces' attacks.

The city mostly remains under control of the Kurdish forces, while the NDF is present in the area of the airport and some neighbourhoods.

The Kurdish forces reported that one of its fighters was killed after an alleged NDF attack on one of the checkpoints late on Tuesday. The NDF forces in turn were quoted in local media as saying that the killing came after its fighters had been assaulted at the checkpoint. Casualties have been reported on both sides.
