Outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani commented on the current state of the talks concerning the Iranian nuclear deal as well as lifting sanctions during his televised interview in Tehran on Monday.
"The expectations we have do not match our negotiations. In the same resolution passed by parliament in December this year, which is one of our main obstacles to resolving negotiations with the P5+1 or the P4+1 plus the United States, it is said that all sanctions should be lifted. Article 7 of the resolution states that all sanctions must be lifted, including sanctions on human rights issues, missile issues, and terrorism," Rouhani told the reporter.
Asked about the lifting of economic sanctions on the country, Rouhani replied, "In the short term, we still need to negotiate the lifting of sanctions, albeit in the same framework that the Supreme Leader said. This is the most important case that I believe will be given to him."
President-elect Ebrahim Raisi will be sworn in on August 5. Indirect talks between Tehran and Washington on reviving the Iran nuclear deal have been frozen due to elections in Iran.
