Description

Two years have passed since Paris's gothic cathedral, Notre Dame, was nearly destroyed in a fire. Restoration on the iconic cathedral is ongoing as shown in footage from Thursday.

Restoration work on the 850-year-old icon slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving it still at the consolidation phase.

According to local media, securing the cathedral was the first step of the pricey procedure, which cost around 165 million euros ($197 million) and should be finished by the end of summer.

The complete restoration is expected to be completed by April 15, 2024.

The cathedral's spire and frame were destroyed in a blaze on April 15, 2019. More than 900 million euros ($887 million) were promised in donations to restore the building.
