Description

Dedicated COVID-19 testing sites for people who have taken part in the George Floyd protests opened in New York City on Tuesday.

AFC Urgent Care clinic in the Bronx, among 14 other testing facilities, has been made available for New Yorkers to use who have participated in the recent mass protests, amid fears that the demonstrations may lead to an increase in coronavirus cases.

"With all that is happening, with the riots, the COVID-19 still going on and the social injustice happening, having places like this that provide free COVID testing is great because it allows social distancing and also the protest can continue to go on," said Jude, a local, outside the Bronx clinic.

The initiative looks to carry up to 35,000 tests daily across New York City busiest boroughs.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the dedicated sites on Sunday as he urged protesters to get tested, ahead of New York City entering the first phase of its coronavirus reopening plan on Monday.
