German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said that "no state has the right to dictate Europe's energy policy" regarding US sanctions imposed to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, speaking at a press conference in Moscow, on Tuesday.
Speaking alongside his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov for the first time in person since the coronavirus crisis, Maas said, "we will talk to our partners about this and I made our attitude very clear once again to the US foreign minister during a telephone call on the weekend."
Lavrov agreed adding, "the United States do not see any red lines for themselves and pursue, without any diplomatic efforts, roughly, one simple goal: to have the possibility to do whatever they want in the world politics."
Regarding the murder of a Georgian citizen in Berlin's Tiergarten, Maas said that Germany will react according to the courts verdict. Currently a Russian suspect is in custody. The German federal prosecutor's office believes it was a contract killing ordered by Russian state actors.
