Dozens of people gathered on Saturday in Hajnowka, near the border with Belarus, to demonstrate in support of local and humanitarian organisations helping migrants amid the border crisis.
Chanting slogans such as, "The place of the people is not in the forest," the demonstrators demanded help for people trapped on the Polish-Belarusian border while showing photographs of refugees in distressed conditions.
"We demand the opening of the corridor for humanitarian and medical aid to refugees in the forest," said Maya, one of the activists.
"I was trying to explain it to my kids, because I’m a mother, and I can not find the words to explain my kids why some people are leaving other people in the forest when it’s so cold and we are not helping them," said Ola, amid the crowd of rally participants.
Human rights groups accused Poland of exacerbating the suffering of refugees by sending back those who try to cross. Poland argues this is necessary to stop more people from coming.
