In a bid to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran and the P4+1 countries convened in Vienna on Thursday for the seventh round of talks on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), amid threats of the EU and US preparing to walk away.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister and top negotiator Ali Bagheri highlighted that "all participants in the talks with forward-looking viewpoints to shape dialogues, bring the views of the parties closer to an agreement."
Last week Tehran handed in a proposal on lifting sanctions and nuclear commitments, which EU negotiators considered unacceptable. Present at the talks were UK, France, Germany, Russia and China.
"The proposals made by the Islamic Republic of Iran to the other side last week reflect the views and positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the draft, which were summarised in the Sixth Round of the Vienna talks. These views and positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to be the path of the Iranian delegation in pursuing the talks," Ali Bagheri said.
In 2018 former US President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA agreement and reintroduced sanctions on Iran.
"These differences over sanctions depend on the serious determination and practical readiness of the other side to lift the sanctions. Once this serious determination and practical readiness are achieved, we can take steps to lift the sanctions. And the lifting of sanctions will create a serious opening for the advancement of talks, especially in the field of nuclear measures," the Iranian negotiator added.
