The Turkish Armed Forces started demining operations on Thursday, amid an appeal of the internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) to guarantee the safe return of civilians to areas retaken from Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA).
The GNA announced on June 6 it had retaken control of the Greater Tripoli Region as well as the "last major stronghold" of the LNA in Tarhuna.
Libya has been torn by conflict since the ousting of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. More recently the country has been split into areas controlled by the GNA in Tripoli and the northwest, and territories held by eastern-based LNA in Benghazi, led by Haftar.
