German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said there was 'no reason' to speak directly with Hamas amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Palestine. He made the comments during a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
"I want to say that after events of the last few days, there is no reason to speak directly with Hamas. These are terrorist attacks which are being carried out in Israel by Hamas. And these, from my point of view, completely rule out direct discussions with Hamas," he stated.
Maas moved on to discuss the reported, and apparently confirmed, US waiver of sanctions against German pipeline company Nord Stream 2 AG and its CEO, describing the move as a 'constructive step.'
"We see this as a constructive step about which we would happily discuss further with our partners in Washington," he stated.
