The international ethno-festival Mergen Fest, dedicated to the nomadic traditions of the Kyrgyz people - hunting and equestrian sports - was held in the country’s Chuy region on Saturday.

Footage features event participants with their four-legged companions, dogs and horses, as well as birds of prey, competing in catching quarry and demonstrating their hunting skills.

"It’s an ethno-festival. There will be competitions among Taigans (Kyrgyz sighthounds), eagle, falcon, and hawk hunters. Taigans will compete in chasing skills, falcons - in catching birds and hares," said the organiser, Taalai Shukurov.

He added that in the future the breeders plan to exhibit their animals at international competitions in Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia.

The annual festival concluded with an awards ceremony. The event was supported by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan.
