Thousands of Muslims gathered at Moscow Cathedral Mosque to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday in Russia’s capital on Wednesday.
Footage features worshippers performing prayers both outside and inside the main mosque of Moscow, as well as Grand Mufti of Russia Rawil Gaynetdin addressing the Muslim community.
"Unfortunately, this month was marred by the terrorist attack on March 22, 2024. <...> More than 100 people - 144 unarmed civilians, to be more precise - were killed because of the actions of criminals and terrorists," Gaynetdin said.
Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of the tenth month of Shawwal in the Islamic lunar calendar, commencing with the rising of the crescent moon. It comes at the end of the month-long period of dawn-until-dusk fasting during Ramadan.
