Description

The crew of a Russian Ka-52M scout attack helicopter conducted an operation in the Ukraine conflict zone and reported strikes on units of the Ukrainian armed forces on Monday.

Footage shows servicemen loading ammunition before taking off and firing at targets.

The helicopter’s navigator Alexander claimed the mission had been successful.

"We carried out a combat flight today. The regiment's Command Post assigned the mission to attack the enemy's manpower. We conducted the flight at extremely low height. We hit the target using S-8COM unguided air-to-surface missiles. Thanks to the co-ordinated actions of the crew and excellent training, following the forward air controller's reports, the target was completely destroyed," he said.

The Russian Defence Ministry added that the operation took place in the area covered by its 'Sever' Group of Forces.

At time of publication, the Ukrainian side had not commented on the claims. The AFU General Staff reported on Sunday that "there have been 90 military clashes on the front", claiming Russian forces had conducted '48 airstrikes' since the beginning of the weekend, with combat activities taking place in Kharkov, Kupyansk, Limansk, Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk and other directions.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.

The date and location of the footage released by the Russian Ministry of Defence cannot be independently verified.
