Description

Capybaras at the Moscow Zoo cooled off with fruit and vegetable iced treats on Tuesday during the record-breaking heatwave that hit central Russia.

Footage features the animals licking and munching on the snacks, which the zoo's general director Svetlana Akulova said would help them cool off.

"Even heat-loving animals want some coolness sometimes," she added.

According to Russia’s Hydrometeorological Centre, the current week is expected to bring more intense heat in Moscow, with daytime temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday.

Capybaras are native to South America, and usually live near rivers and lakes among the vegetation. The rodents eat mainly grasses, aquatic plants and fruit.
