Description

The active phase of the 'Unbreakable Brotherhood - 2024' drills of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) peacekeeping contingent got underway in Kazakhstan's Alma-Ata region on Tuesday.

Andrei Trubitsyn, battalion commander in the Russian Armed Forces, explained that under the drill scenario, two opposing groups staged a riot in a populated area.

"We blockaded this populated area, brought in National Guard troops, special forces from different countries, from different contingents. And then the instigators of all these riots were arrested and taken, let's say, to a designated place. And they ensured the safe evacuation of the civilian population," the soldier added.

Footage shows servicemen practising evacuating civilians at the Bereg training range following the 'riot scenario'. Additionally, the video has peacekeepers listening to the anthems of the CSTO member states and marching with flags along the training ground.

Sultan Kamaletdinov, Kazakhstan's Chief of the General Staff, said it would 'show the best side' of the national peacekeeping contingents and their joint work.

In turn, Hasan Kaloev, First Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, noted that the organisation's member states had more than 25 years of experience in peacekeeping in various parts of the world.

The active phase of the CSTO command and staff exercise 'Unbreakable Brotherhood-2024' is scheduled to last from October 1-5.

Military units from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan are taking part in the exercise. According to the CSTO press service, the drills feature more than 2,000 troops, 500 units of armoured and motor vehicles, Mi-17 and Mi-35 helicopters, Il-76 and Si-295 aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles.
