Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya said that the recent BRICS Summit in Kazan had helped strengthen economic international co-operation, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.

"Let me also not miss the opportunity to congratulate the Russian Federation on the success of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, which took place from October 22 to 24 and was an important milestone on the way to international co-operation in the economic sphere," the diplomat stated.

Al-Yahya also conveyed his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin on behalf of Kuwaiti Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and noted that the strategic partnership had existed since 1963.

"This visit is an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations in various spheres, which confirms the willingness of the leadership of the two countries to develop co-operation," he added.

For his part, Lavrov stressed that Russia and Gulf Co-operation Council members had similar approaches to regional and international affairs, particularly the situation in the Middle East,

The 16th BRICS Summit took place October 22-24. World leaders from more than 20 countries, with delegations from over 30 nations, attended one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade, with the Kazan Declaration agreed on future co-operation.
