Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that trade turnover between Russia and China exceeded 20 trillion rubles ($219 billion) in 2023, during a meeting with Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday.

"Despite increasing external pressure, we have achieved the tasks set by our leaders - in Russia and China - to increase mutual trade volumes, ahead of schedule. Last year, our trade turnover exceeded 20 trillion rubles, or 1.6 trillion yuan," Mishustin explained.

The Russian prime minister added that the share of the ruble and the yuan in mutual settlements exceeded 95 percent, and also spoke about ongoing ties between the countries in the energy, transportation and industrial sectors.

In turn, Li Qiang noted the unwavering strength of Russian-Chinese relations.

"In the face of a complex and volatile international situation, the Chinese side is ready to move forward more confidently together with Russian partners, guided by the strategy of our leaders in the spirit of mutual respect, mutual trust, centuries-old friendship, and mutual benefit. To take our multifaceted co-operation to a higher level for the benefit of our peoples, for the sake of equality and justice in the world," noted Li Qiang.

Li Qiang arrived in Moscow on Wednesday for the 29th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian heads of government. The Chinese premier is also scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
