Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kazan on Tuesday for the landmark BRICS summit.

Footage shows Modi descending from the aircraft and shaking hands with Tatarstan's leader Rustam Minnikhanov.

"Congratulations on your great Russian award, we are very happy. Welcome, welcome, glad to have you here, glad to see you," Minnikhanov told the Indian PM.

On July 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded Modi the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, the highest state award.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24. World leaders from 22 countries are expected, with delegations from 36 nations, for one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade.

Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024. The group also expanded this year, growing in both size and influence to nearly half the world’s population and a third of the global economy.
