The crew of a Russian Ka-52M helicopter were seen conducting operations in the Ukraine conflict zone, and claimed that an 'enemy stronghold' had been successfully targeted in the operation.
Footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry on Friday shows the aircraft taking to the air, the crew firing missiles at targets and returning to the airfield.
"After receiving the combat mission, the group took off together at once, reached the target and used unguided weapons from the pitching manoeuvre. <...> After returning to the home airfield, the objective control materials were analysed with confirmation from the aircraft gunner that the target had been hit," said the commander of the Ka-52M reconnaissance and attack helicopter.
At time of publication, the Ukrainian side had not commented on the statement by the Russian Defence Ministry.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
