Description

The Mongolian capital is preparing for the anticipated arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Drone footage filmed on Sunday shows the city's high-rise buildings, the Zaisan Memorial to Soviet soldiers and the Choijin Lama Temple-Museum ahead of the leader's visit.

Putin is expected to arrive in Mongolia on September 3rd, according to the Kremlin press service. This would mark his first official visit to the state since 2019.

The Russian leader will take part in celebrations marking the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet and Mongolian armed forces over Japan on the Khalkhin Gol River. He is also scheduled to hold talks with the head of the republic, Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry urged Mongolian authorities to arrest the Russian president.

"Putin and the rest of Russia's military and political leadership must face justice," the ministry said.

The ministry claimed that Mongolia, which recognises the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC), was obliged to execute the court's arrest warrant and detain the Russian leader.
