Description

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western countries 'encourage the preservation' of Nazi Russophobia in Ukraine, during a press conference following the Meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

"We had certain unofficial contacts with the West, and no one there wants to notice this Nazi Russophobic effect and the order that this regime is creating. Moreover, the West not only does not want to notice it, but it directly encourages the preservation of this very character of the Ukrainian state in order to further use the Kiev regime in the war against Russia," the diplomat claimed.

In addition, Lavrov expressed his belief that the United States is confident that in the event of nuclear war, which he claimed is something ‘they are actively engaged in' provoking, then only Europe will suffer in what would be ‘a win-win situation’ for Washington.

This follows the comment by US National Security Council communications advisor John Kirby on Friday that Washington does not seek a war with Russia, as it would have dire consequences for the European continent.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
