In an interview with Russian media in Nizhny Novgorod on Wednesday, Acting Foreign Minister of Iran, Ali Bagheri, described the situation in Gaza as a 'clear war crime' and an 'explicit genocide'.
"I have to stress what is going on in Gaza is not a dispute. It’s a clear war crime and an explicit genocide that the oppressed people of Palestine are victims. And Zionists as the invaders, occupiers and criminals are the main culprit of this crime and Americans are the main supporter of Zionists in this crime," he said.
Bagheri also highlighted Iran's potential to strengthen economic cooperation with both Latin America and Africa.
"These capacities can both result in the empowerment of these countries for their development and progress and consequently make them stronger and more stable against neo-colonialism,” he added.
The Iranian minister also claimed that through partnerships such as BRICS and the SCO, sanctions on Russia, China and Iran would only limit those who seek to impose them.
"The determination of independent states in the framework of BRICS for de-dollarization of their economic and trade ties and also the creation of independent institutions such as the BRICS Bank enables these countries to get rid of their reliance on western capacities, and these countries have this ability."
An Iranian delegation led by Bagheri attended the two-day BRICS Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers (CMFA) meetings in Nizhny Novgorod from June 10.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated his condolences on the passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and former Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian while also expressing confidence that Russian-Iranian relations will remain favourable.
