Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov on the eve of Eid al-Adha on Tuesday, as seen in the photo posted by Kadyrov on his Telegram channel.
"Our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin shows much respect to the Muslim population of our country that is vast, mighty and united. I reported on the socio-economic situation in the Chechen Republic during our meeting yesterday. We also discussed future plans and the region's achievements," wrote Kadyrov in his post.
According to Kadyrov, Putin also expressed his best wishes to all Muslims, including the servicemen engaged in the military offensive in Ukraine, on the occasion of the Islamic holiday.
Eid al-Adha, the 'Feast of the Sacrifice' is celebrated annually on the tenth day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, and lasts for three days.
It also marks the end of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage when Muslims from all over the world travel to Mecca.
Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.
