The Russian Northern Fleet conducted special drills in the Barents Sea involving various support vessels, according to a report from the fleet's press service on Thursday.
Footage from the exercises shows ships launching jet depth charges and servicemen firing from the deck as part of the anti-submarine defence operations.
The press release highlighted that the climax of the drills involved the small anti-submarine warship 'Brest,' which, in coordination with anti-submarine aviation assets—the IL-38 aircraft and Ka-27M naval helicopter—detected and targeted a simulated enemy submarine using jet depth charges and torpedoes.
The Northern Fleet's press service also noted that the exercises included practising defence strategies against potential threats like unmanned motorboats, UAVs, and other robotic systems of a simulated enemy.
Approximately 20 support ships and vessels, along with six aircraft, are participating in the multi-day maritime exercises.
