Egyptian Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Sayed Mohamed Marzouk El-Quseir said Cairo could export agricultural products to meet Moscow's needs while speaking during an interview with the Russian media on Friday.
"We hope to open the Russian market to Egyptian quality agricultural products to achieve a certain degree of balance in trade relations, especially in agricultural products, because, as the Russian Agriculture Minister [Oksana Lut] pointed out, there is sometimes a shortage of these goods in the country. We can export a number of our products to meet Russia's needs, thereby narrowing the gap in the need to use foreign currency in settling transactions and thus achieving balance," the minister added.
El-Quseir noted that Egypt is one of the largest exporters of goods to Russia, and the two countries 'share a common vision' regarding supplies and cooperation in agriculture.
"Today, we held a meeting with the Russian Agriculture Minister and discussed cooperation in the agricultural sector, as well as areas of mutual interest. We are pleased that the two sides share a common vision, given that Egypt is considered one of the largest countries importing grain and oilseed products from Russia. And Russia, in turn, imports citrus fruits and potatoes from Egypt in large quantities," the minister said.
The politician added that during the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation and relations between research centres in Cairo and Moscow, support for exports of goods from Egypt to the EU, and other areas of bilateral relations.
