Russian cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov gave an insight into his daily routine on board the International Space Station (ISS), explaining the process of shaving and brushing his teeth in zero gravity.

Exclusive footage taken on October 25 features Borisov with his special personal hygiene kit; squeezing toothpaste on to the brush, brushing his teeth and wiping his mouth with a wet napkin as well as shaving with an electric razor.

"How do we brush our teeth? Actually the same way we do on Earth. The only nuance is that we use a lot less toothpaste and it's very important to use a toothpaste that is less foamy in order to hold all the stuff that appears when you brush your teeth in your mouth. Here's a toothbrush, add a drop of water and brush your teeth," the cosmonaut explained.

According to Borisov, he can use both disposable razor blades or an electric razor, explaining that the second option is 'a little bit longer, not so efficient, but much more convenient'.

"We use shaving cream, shave, and wipe gently with a towel. The only difference is that the razor blades in this case will be one-use. We have a lot of them, just throw them away and replace them with a new one. This is one way that everyone is familiar with. The second way, which I discovered only here in space, is much more practical. There is an ordinary standard electric shaver," he said.

The cosmonaut arrived at the ISS aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft with the Crew-7 expedition on August 27. The crew also included NASA astronaut and Crew-7 commander Jasmin Moghbeli, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Satoshi Furukawa.

Borisov is the third Russian cosmonaut to travel to the ISS aboard a SpaceX rocket, after Anna Kikina and Andrey Fedyaev, who arrived at the station in October 2022 and March 2023 respectively.
