Description

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed European leaders were 'not their own masters' and acting on the orders of Washington, speaking on the sidelines of the 27th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday.

"Look at Macron, look at Scholz, just look at their statements over the years: they're switching their positions, and the explanation is simple: they are not their own masters, they don't represent independent countries, unfortunately," Zakharova claimed.

"They have become dependent on the United States of America, so whatever message they get, whatever instructions they get, whatever sanctions they are forced to accept - that is what they will do," she alleged.

SPIEF 2024, taking place from June 5-8, includes participants from over 136 countries. Since its inception in 1997, the forum has served as a platform for international dialogue on economic matters, with the patronage and participation of the Russian Federation's president since 2005.
