Description

The Kochkor Fest 2024 national festival was held in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan on Sunday.

Footage shows participants setting up a yurt, competing in a tug-of-war, making a traditional felt carpet and watching a game of kok-boru, played by teams on horseback.

Kochkor Fest has been held since 2005 and was first organised to introduce foreign tourists to Kyrgyz customs and culture.

"[It was set up] to show the nomadic life, everyday life, the lifestyle of the Kyrgyz people and traditional folk music,” added festival organiser Bekzhan Namatkaziev.

One visitor from Spain, Xavier Sala, said he was excited to see the unique event.

"It's a fantastic, amazing festival. It's so different from [the culture of] our country. Everything is just fantastic: the horses, the falcons, everything,” he said..

Visitors were also able to enjoy artistic performances, take part in national games and attend a cookery masterclass for the traditional Kyrgyz ‘Baursak' dish, a type of fried bread.
