Description

Young panda cub Katyusha was seen causing trouble for her mum Ding Ding, with her playful antics at Moscow Zoo.

Footage published on Wednesday shows Ding Ding having her regular exercise session with the handlers, with her baby attempting to climb on top of mummy - before being pushed gently away.

"What does Katusha do when mum is in training? During her mother's training, Katyusha is simply doing her own thing, hanging around. Ding Ding is not hugely distracted by her daughter, just slightly," Svetlana Akulova, the zoo CEO, shared on her Telegram channel.

The female panda cub, born in August last year, was named 'Katyusha' after the popular folk song, in a public vote on Moscow city's online portal.

Katyusha's parents Ding Ding and Ruyi were brought to Moscow from Beijing in 2019.

Their home, the 'Chinese Fauna' pavilion at Moscow Zoo, was inaugurated by Russian President Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping.

Giant pandas, native to China, are a symbol of conservation efforts worldwide. Ding Ding and Ruyi are part of a scientific initiative aimed at preserving and breeding the rare species.
