US and Armenian servicemen kicked off joint military drills dubbed Eagle Partner 2024 in Yerevan on Monday.

Footage shows US Ambassador Christine Quinn and Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan watching the soldiers march.

"The drills train stabilization actions between the conflicting parties in the course of peacekeeping tasks. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance the level of interaction between units participating in international peacekeeping missions within the framework of peacekeeping operations, exchange best practices in the field of command and tactical communication, as well as increase the combat readiness of the Armenian unit," the Armenian Defence Ministry said.

The US Embassy in the republic noted that the joint exercises are a testament to a long-standing partnership with Armenia and build on decades of successful security co-operation.

For her part, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Armenian-American exercises undermine the mechanisms of co-operation between Armenia and Russia.

The Eagle Partner 2024 military exercises will last until 24 July.
