Local resident Anna, the eyewitness of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplane crash in the Moscow region's Kolomna urban district, recounted the moment the aircraft flew over her vegetable garden on Friday.
"What we noticed was that its engine was running very strangely, as if it was malfunctioning. I also said to [my son], '[Look], the airplane is flying, and the engine is running strangely'. Actually, I continued to work with vegetable beds there, and he started watching it, kept watching it. Then I just hear him shriek 'Mom!'. I jumped up and asked what happened. I saw a black column of smoke behind the settlement in the woods. I ask if the plane went down? He turned around and said 'Yes'," she recalled.
"It suddenly veered downwards, so its forebody headed straight down, as he said, and then we saw the column of smoke," Anna's son added.
Kolomna Mayor Alexander Grechishchev wrote on his Telegram channel that the 'exact location' had been determined.
"It is a forest area near the village of Bolshoye Karasevo. There is no threat to the residents of the surrounding settlements," he stated.
Earlier, the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported that according to preliminary data, all three crew members on board were killed and there were no other casualties. The United Aircraft Corporation disclosed that the aircraft, which went into service in 2014, was on a transfer flight to the airport.
The Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal case related to the 'violation of air transport safety regulations'. The Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) will lead the investigation into the crash, as confirmed by the press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
