Chaos unfolded outside the Wildberries headquarters, Russia’s largest online retailer, following a shooting incident on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses captured footage of the disorder, showing unknown individuals fleeing from the Romanov Dvor business centre as law enforcement and emergency services arrived at the scene.
One observer noted, “OMON started to work and those rushed away. There’s an ambulance, the police. The OMON officers are going in masks. That’s it, the guys have gone to work.”
According to Wildberries' press service, the shooting involved a group of men accompanying Vladislav Bakalchuk, a co-founder of the marketplace. The company reported simultaneous trespassing attempts at two of its locations, suggesting a planned attack rather than a negotiation. Several police officers and security personnel were injured during the altercation.
Bakalchuk stated that his team was attacked while addressing issues related to the suspension of warehouse construction. In a Telegram post, he explained, “The business centre security guards refused to let me and my colleagues through, using ridiculous excuses. No one could have imagined that the shooting would begin. My team was not armed; police officers protected us.”
Wildberries CEO Tatyana Bakalchuk dismissed the notion of negotiations and characterised the incident as 'an unsuccessful attempt at a raider takeover.' The Russian Investigative Committee is reported to be investigating the incident.
