Oman’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chair Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas said that his country’s 'strategic location could be ideal' for Russian exports to African and Asian countries, speaking at a session of the 27th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday.

"Today we are meeting in this beautiful city, St Petersburg, and we hope this will represent the special relationship that Oman and Russia have," he said, adding: "Even though our bilateral trade is not up to the goals and ambitions that we are looking for, but we hope that we will reach [it] through our participation in this economic forum."

"We would like to, as His Excellency [Qais bin Mohammed Al Yusuf] said, to show you the potential, the opportunities that we have in Oman in so many sectors. For example, the food security, where the strategic location of Oman could be ideal for Russian products to be exported to the neighbouring countries on two continents, Africa and Asia," he continued.

Meanwhile, Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Qais Mohammed al Yousef said it was an honour to be able to participate in SPIEF and added that attending the forum was "an incredible opportunity to showcase the wealth of possibilities of Oman's dynamic economy and the richness of our unique culture".

SPIEF 2024, taking place from June 5-8, includes participants from over 136 countries. Since its inception in 1997, the forum has served as a platform for international dialogue on economic matters, with the patronage and participation of the Russian Federation's president since 2005.
