Description

A massive explosion erupted in an office block in the Moscow region where a fire had broken out earlier on Monday.

Footage shows the moment of the blast - as well as an eyewitness exclaiming 'holy sh*t' as the smoke continued to engulf the multi-storey administrative building.

According to the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM), there were tanks with a gas-air mixture inside the building.

"The fire is spreading from floors five to eight. The work is complicated by high temperatures and dense smoke," the ministry’s statement read.

The agency added that 130 firefighters, 50 vehicles and two Ka-32 helicopters were involved in extinguishing the fire, which covered around 4,500 square metres.

Preliminary reports suggest that there were nine people in the building, with one of them rescued by EMERCOM staff.
