Russian Emergencies Ministry rescuers extinguished open fire following the explosion at a petrol station in the village of Novy Khushet on the outskirts of Makhachkala on Friday.

An explosion occurred at a petrol station on the outskirts of Makhachkala on Friday. According to the Russian emergencies ministry, 10 people including two children were among the dead and 11 others were injured. The injured have been taken to hospital and are in a medium condition.
The press service said the petrol station was destroyed and the fire was localised. 119 specialists, 27 units of equipment and 4 fire brigades are working on the site.
Dagestan's Sergei Melikov declared 28 September a day of mourning. State flags will be lowered and entertainment events and TV shows will be cancelled in memory of the victims.
In response to the incident, the prosecutor's office of Dagestan has initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances of the fire at the petrol station.
