Servicemen were seen launching ballistic and cruise missiles during Strategic Deterrence Forces exercises in a video published by the Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday.
Footage shows the rockets blasting off from surface-to-air missile launchers in a shroud of flames and smoke.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, a Yars intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome, targeting the Kura training ground in far eastern Kamchatka. Meanwhile, Sineva and Bulava missiles were launched from the Novomoskovsk submarine in the Barents Sea and Knyaz Oleg in the Sea of Okhotsk. Tu-95MC bombers were also deployed, firing air-launched cruise missiles.
In September, Moscow approved changes to the nuclear doctrine, with aggression by a 'non-nuclear state with support of nuclear state' now considered a 'joint attack' on Russia.
The date and location of the footage published by the Russian Defence Ministry cannot be independently verified.
