The Ostankino District Court in Moscow handed down a severe sentence of 12 years and 6 months in prison on Thursday to Robert Woodland, a U.S. citizen, for his involvement in the attempted illegal production and sale of drugs.

The courtroom scene captured on footage depicted Woodland listening solemnly as the judge delivered the verdict: "Imprisonment for 12 years and 6 months, to be served in a strict regime penal colony. The measure of restraint for Woodland, Robert Romanov, shall remain the same until the entry of the court verdict into legal force for detention."

According to the Moscow Prosecutor's office, Woodland faced charges under the third part of Article 30 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for preparation and attempted crime, as well as under paragraph 'd' of the first part of Article 228 for illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, manufacture, processing of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues.
