Russian athletes on Monday held open training sessions at the Novogorsk training centre near Moscow ahead of the Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

Footage features track and field athletes practising with javelins and training with weighted stick grenade replicas as well as running.

"Neither the government, nor the Sports Ministry, nor the Paralympic Committee, in my opinion, have ever made plans to win a certain number of medals. We have always said that their main goal is to compete worthily, show their best results," said Pavel Rozhkov, the president of the Russian Paralympic Committee.

"The Paralympic Committee was earlier chaired by a respected president [Vladimir Lukin], who held the position for 20 years, and he once said: 'We don't count medals, we win them'," he continued.

The committee head also said that not all athletes selected for the Paralympics had been confirmed to participate in the Games.

"Among these 90 people [selected for the Paralympic Games], the situation is still unclear regarding four athletes. Their neural status has been confirmed. They have passed the verification, received confirmation, passed the selection and qualification, but there are still some questions left. We are working with the embassy, International Paralympic Committee, and organising committees," Rozhkov added.

A total of 48 track and field athletes, 35 swimmers, five table tennis players, two triathlon and taekwondo athletes from Russia are expected to take part in the Paris Paralympic Games.

The Summer Paralympic Games will be held in Paris from August 28 to September 8. The International Paralympic Committee allowed Russian athletes to take part in the Games with a neutral status and without the right to participate in the opening and closing ceremonies.
