Description

Russian FAB-3000 aerial glide-bombs were seen targeting sites in Kurakhovo city, Donetsk People’s Republic in footage released on Thursday.

Footage shows clouds of thick smoke rising above the destroyed building following an explosion. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed that its Yug Group of Forces had used the payload to hit a temporary Ukrainian base.

"During the task, up to 50 operators and instructors, seven units of the enemy's weaponry and hardware were eliminated. UAV operators of the Yug Group of Forces reconnoitred the position of the AFU UAV unit, and a precise strike was delivered to hit the target," the DefMin report read.

The Ukrainian side has not officially commented on the Russian claims at the time of publication. Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) issued a report on Tuesday, saying that 'the situation in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhovsky directions remains strained'.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
