A delegation of Japanese lawmakers led by chairman Furuya Keiji arrived to Presidential Palace in Taipei on Monday to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen.

Footage shows vehicles arriving at the building, and police deployed to guard the premises.

The Japanese delegation met with the head of Taiwan's executive council on Monday.

During the three-day visit from 22 to 24 August, the delegation is expected to discuss with Taiwanese authorities the military drills recently conducted by China.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan rose tensions in the region and triggered large-scale Chinese military exercises around the island.

China released a white paper declaring that it will look for a peaceful reunification with Taiwan, but will not renounce the use of force if necessary.
