Leader of Venezuelan opposition, Juan Guaido, reiterated his promises to "reach democracy and freedom in Venezuela," as he spoke in Bogota on Monday, where he arrived for the Third Western Hemisphere Counterterrorism Ministerial conference, in defiance of a travel ban.

Guaido stressed that he is the "president in charge of Venezuela" and demanded free election to be held in the country, slamming current Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro for being a "dictator."

The opposition leader defied the travel ban imposed on him by the Venezuelan Supreme Government Court. He also met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and is expected to travel to Europe for the World Economic Forum from Colombia.

On January 5, dissident opposition deputy Luis Parra was sworn in as the new president of the National Assembly after his rival and self-proclaimed acting president of Venezuela Guaido was prevented from entering the building and joining a special session of Parliament. Two days later the opposition leader managed to enter Parliament to swear in office for a new period.
