Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev on Saturday accused Russia of shelling a humanitarian convoy in Zaporozhye.
"The enemy started this day with a deliberate and absolutely premeditated murder of Ukrainians in Zaporozhye. A missile attack on a civilian convoy of cars. As of now, 30 dead are reported. Almost a hundred wounded and traumatized," the President said. "The Russian military knew where their missiles would hit. Non-humans did it. From the first to the last. From the one who gave this order and to everyone who executed this order."
The politician called a concert on the Red Square to celebrate the accession treaties 'a farce'.
"Another farce took place in Moscow today. Something was celebrated there. They were chanting something there. They sang in the square. They were talking about Zaporozhye... When they themselves arranged such a thing in Zaporozhye. They are non-humans," the President said.
Zelensky commented on the formal entry of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), Zaporozhye and Kherson into the Russian Federation by Vladimir Putin.
"Pseudo-referendums are elements of aggression against a sovereign state, and anyone involved in organizing or conducting this farce will be held accountable," said the President. "Today, I spoke with the Prime Ministers of Japan and Denmark. Of course, they condemned the new Russian steps towards escalation."
The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case 'over the shelling of a convoy of cars with civilians in Zaporozhye.' According to the department, at least 23 civilians were killed and at least 34 were wounded.
On September 30, President Vladimir Putin agreed to sign documents allowing the accession of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, to the Russian Federation.
According to Moscow, the move followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.
Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
