Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez cast his vote in Bogota Saturday in the 'popular consultation' called by the Venezuelan opposition against the December 6 legislative elections.

Venezuelan citizens were seen casting their votes in Bogota's Bolivar Square.

Saturday's consultation was organised to "reject the electoral fraud committed on December 6 by Nicolas Maduro," to call for "free, fair and verifiable parliamentary presidential elections," and to ask "the world to join us in exercising all the mechanisms of pressure to achieve freedom and free elections in Venezuela," Lopez said.

Sunday's legislative polls saw President Nicolas Maduro and his ruling United Socialist Party claim control of the National Assembly, the last opposition controlled institution in the country, amid a boycott of the opposition. Guaido has dubbed the election a 'fraud.'

Lopez fled from Venezuela in late October, after having spent 18 months in the Spanish ambassador's residence in Caracas to avoid house arrest.
