Riot police used water cannons on crowds of protesters who gathered near Plaza Baquedano, in Santiago on Friday, demanding freedom for those detainees who had been arrested during previous demonstrations.

Protesters marched carrying banners and chanting slogans when riot police tried to block them.

Police arrested at least one protester who was taken away in a police van. The subway was also promptly closed due to the chaos.
