Thousands of protesters took part in a rally to mark the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice in Sydney's Hyde Park Saturday.
This rally was the first legally registered rally since the beginning of the lockdown in Australia.
Activists, members of the Green and the Communist parties, as well as students, organised this protest to advocate for global climate justice amid the COP26 summit in Glasgow. Protesters also took their aim at PM Scott Morris' lack of political engagement towards a climate neutral economy.
"I am here because the climate is dying and our leaders aren’t doing anything about it, we have a duty to the next generation, we have a duty to ourselves. We are seeing climate change happen in our lifetime. We just lived through the worst bushfires in Australia in living memory and our government that went to the last chance climate conference to tout fossil fuels! It's crazy. We need to rise up and tell politicians who are in the pockets of the fossil fuel industry that they should listen to us.", said attendee Ember Flame.
World leaders are reuniting in Glasgow, Scotland for the COP26 summit to find an agreement regarding the completion of climate goals to avoid an excessive heating of the planet.
