Celebrations took place in Bamako on Thursday as Mali’s national football team won against Mauritania in the African Cup of Nations.

Residents gathered to see a live broadcast of the Group stage match, which secured the team’s progression into the Round of 16 in the tournament.

“Mali, our homeland deserves to be supported given its current situation. We are proud of you,” commented one of the capital’s residents.

The 2-0 victory was made possible thanks to goals by players Massadio Haidara and Ibrahim Kone.

Mali is set to play against Equatorial Guinea in the next round of the African Cup of Nations on January 26.
