The man was allegedly pushed by a police officer was attempting to arrest him.

The injured man has fractured wrists and a cranial brain trauma, he remains in a serious condition at the Santa Maria Clinic.

The police officer responsible has now been detained and accused of attempted murder, as confirmed on Saturday by the North Central Prosecutor's Office.

"Seeing what happened yesterday brings up many bad memories of grief, pain and anger. Somehow I had to express the anger I feel, because I feel a lot of anger. So I decided to come here at ten in the morning and I have been standing here so that people can see and know what happens in this country," explained protester Cristian Jorquera.

The protesters were met with water cannons and gas canisters while protesting the police brutality. Footage shows emergency services having to protect an elderly protester from the gas and water.

I was one of those who believed that after the eighties things had changed, that I would never see the things I saw in the eighties again. But I was wrong and that also hurts me a lot and that's why I'm here too," Cristian went on to say."
