Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn conceded defeat to the Conservative party saying it was a “disappointing night“ for Labour, while giving a speech at his London constituency in Islington North, in the early hours of Friday.

“But I want to say this, in the election campaign we put forward a manifesto of hope, a manifesto of unity“, said Corbyn, while addressing a cheering crowd.

The Labour leader also confirmed he will not lead the party into any future general election, and he added that the party needed to reflect and he will stay on as it discusses its future.

“I will discuss with our party to ensure there is a process now of reflection on this result and on the policies that the party will take going forward.“

Polling stations in the UK closed at 22:00 GMT. According to the latest polls, the Conservative Party is set to win an overall majority with 86 on Thursday's general election.
