01:46Former Austrian Chancellor and Austrian People's Party (OVP) candidate for chancellor Sebastian Kurz cast his vote on Sunday in Vienna, as voting got underway in the country's snap parliamentary elections.
"We are very confident, we have a clear goal namely to be first in this election. We want to have a positive result and our most important aim is that there won't be a majority against us. For this we fought in the past weeks and months," Kurz said after exiting the polling station.
The OVP leader's previous coalition government with the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPO) collapsed in May following the release of the so-called 'Ibiza' video, which allegedly shows then FPO party leader Heinz-Christian Strache discussing governmental contracts with a supposed Russian investor on the Spanish island.
Kurz's OVP is expected to emerge as the largest party after the elections with recent polling showing that the party may receive around 34 percent of the vote.
The FPO is polling at around 20 percent, while the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPO) is at 22 percent.
